Gender Equlaity

Note – Before I even begin to write what is on my mind, let me clarify that I am aware of and agree to the following, lest I be reminded of these later:

  • Women were mistreated in all possible ways for many many years and still are in some segments
  • The concept of women not being equal to men was never gladly accepted and is still not.
  • Systems such as Dowry, Parda et all should never have existed and should not exist
  • Female foeticide and infanticide are a deplorable reality

HAVING SAID ALL OF THIS, my focus in this post is on the middle class segment of the society which BY AND LARGE does not suffer from these ailments (or at least not in a violent way) – EXCEPTIONS ARE MANY I KNOW!

Today, I will be concentration on equality that needs to be provided to the MEN in our society. Most people must be agreeing with me, but never state the same given that it is completely against what SHOULD be said.

I want the females reading this to picture the following (the men are already a part of this so no need for them to imagine):

  • A coach specifically reserved for the ladies in the Metro, and the right to travel in all other coaches as well – and then when in PEEK Rush Hour, some females decide to board the general coach, the expectation by them that all men will maintain one arm’s distance from them – and every time the same is not done (simply because it is not possible in that kind of crowd), the women cry hoarse over the issue subjecting the men to humiliation and shame. [I have seen this so many times in the last one month plus of travelling by metro that I pity the poor men]
  • A woman can flirt with any man around her that she wishes to, and it is supposed to be taken as a compliment by the men – but the minute a man she doesn’t WANT attention from decides to flirt with her, all charges of molestation, eve-teasing etc. are rattled off on the guy. EITHER disallow the women also from flirting with the men THEY THINK FIT OR allow the men also to flirt with the women THEY THINK FIT.
  • During a fight between two people, the woman may threaten to kill, destroy, harm the man and the man is supposed to understand that she is saying all these things in anger (even if she may have meant them), but the man as much as glares at the woman or as much as moves his hand (not hitting her), a case of Domestic Violence is slapped on to the guy.
  • A woman decides to dress in absolutely see through clothes (I have seen a female – on a metro platform, dressed in a white see through skirt, to the extent that her inner garments were visible). Such woman expects to attract all the attention she WANTS and no UNWANTED attention. It’s simple – you don’t want men of all kinds staring at you – don’t wear such clothes at 9:30 in the night in a public place. Any man who as much as looks in the direction of such females  will be called names and questions will be raised on everything ranging from his character to his upbringing.
  • The woman (wife) can decide to disrespect her in-laws, not even be courteous to them, take their son away (literally) from their home and lives and no-one bats an eyelid, but if a man as much as suggests that the girl’s family is too interfering, this amounts to CRUELTY on the woman.
  • In any given field today, there is reservation for Lower Castes, Economically backward,….., Women – Where it leaves the general category men, I shudder to think.

At no point am I claiming that middle class females are not subject to atrocities. My sole contention is that, for the acts of a few, why is the whole community of men being held guilty. Why have we made it a habit to assume it is the man’s fault? Why is it that before we even know an iota of the story, we assume that somehow somewhere the man is wrong? If the woman is angry, it is the man;s fault, he must have caused the provocation; if the man feels angry, it is the man’s fault, he should not have given in to the provocation, “if at all” by the woman. EQUALITY???

The following video shows just what equality should mean (I INSIST EVERYONE WATCH IT ONCE) –https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1JADWjEajg

I Wonder

Image

Rape seems to be a norm,

Women’s body just a mode of pleasure.

No shame remains in any form,

While men create havoc at leisure.

Rang De Basanti is remembered,

Where protestors are unnecessarily hit.

Human again has erred,

Is there no bottom to this lowly pit?

A lot is being spoken,

With absolutely no one to hear.

Each thread of hope broken,

Are we to live in constant fear?

More girls victimised by the day,

Victims including babies three year old.

Will the offenders ever be made to pay,

I am afraid what does the future hold.

The mud is thrown on the women,

Seemingly from unrespectable families they belong.

Who gave this freedom to such men?

To speak whatever in their minds comes along.

Dancing

Dancing – the art of expressing our emotions through motion, is i believe, one of the most expressive arts.  In a dance, you can see the emotions come to life. The dancer, dances as to his/her own tune which is naturally in sync with the external tune meant for the viewers (if any). The dancer himself dances as if there is no viewer, it is just his/her way of expressing what lies in the deepest roots of it’s heart. Though of course, my assumption here is that the person is truly dancing and not just having a dance in the sense that is so casually understood these days.

A dancer, specially a female ( I could be wrong in making it gender biased), is most vulnerable when she has just finished truly dancing. Just after a dance, she is still in the expressing stage. At this moment she is most prone to anything said to her or anything she sees or even thinks. Her life, at this moment, is an open book. And this is clearly expressed by her emotions overflowing on her face. See this video to understand  what i mean:

There are a plethora of videos which may express the true emotions of a dancer but I chose this video because this is the video that made me truly start dancing like no one’s watching.  One more beautiful thing about this video is that in it the expressions on the face of all three girls, it is visible that they are indeed not acting but they are truly in that emotion.

I believer it is only an honest dancer who can portray what he/she feels. A person who is merely dancing for fun will never be able to feel and express the emotions I talked off. So, if you are a true dancer, dance to your heart and let no one tell you anything about it, because as the cliche’ goes : “Those who mind don’t matter and those who matter don’t mind.”

Take care all. 🙂

A poem

I had to put up something not so cliche’ and normal as a post for my return to blogging. :p

So here’s a poem…. which I am dedicating to my roommate because she is indeed a beautiful girl!!!

A wild flower, rare, beautiful, and surprising.
She stands strong and distinguished amongst the rest.
Her natural yet subtle beauty entrancing,
The clarity of Nature once again is manifest.

The analogy yields to the beauty within,
Visions of an infinitely complex fractal recursion fall short.
All attempts to describe implode before they begin,
Analytically intractable, impenetrable by thought.

Her honest curiosity humbles me.
Through layers of warmth, I see beyond her smile.
Volition and intellectual acuity; a reminder,
She kowtows to no-one, yes I like this girls style.

Two experiments together

This time, I’m trying out something I’ve never done before. I’m writing the two parts of this post for two memes of Leo’s blog – I Rhyme Without Reason.

The first is an Acrostic story for It’s Thursday.

while the second is a Haiku for Haiku Heights

Please do not be kind on me and let me know exactly where I falter and where I can improve myself.

Note – Both are absolutely and undoubtedly fiction. 🙂

It’s Thursday:

“Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely”. That’s my tale. Until school, life was simple. Then, when I came to college, I came to understand for the first time what politics really meant and what it meant to have power.

Everyone around me suddenly seemed to be conscious of the title and place they held in college. It was only human for me to follow this thought. And so began my journey towards the core of college politics.

Whoever I met, I made sure was happy with me. I made certain that when I reached my final year and stood for elections, people would have no reason not to vote for me. The ones who fell short of cash, got it from my pocket money; this solved most of their demands. The few guys too ugly/disgusting/irritating/undeserving/frustrated to get laid, also got what they wanted. Yes, I had fallen to my lowest, and risen to the highest in politics.

Engrossed in the politics, I even sacrificed my actual aim, that of studying well. I made it to ‘the top’ though. I was made head of the student association in my final year. Looking back, this is where I should have ended this madness, but it was flowing in my blood by now.

Remorse is all I feel today when I look back to my doings in college. I was to my college, what Hitler was to Germany. My friends (more of money or power or both than real emotions) were free to do as they pleased, while my enemies died by the day (some even literally). Today, as I sit in a prison cell for a seven year term that started a month back, I dwell on what I could have been, instead of what I am. Absolute power corrupted me absolutely.

Haiku:

the ghosts of my past
have returned, determined to
haunt me forever

To think of it, not that I planned it like this, the haiku can be an aftermath of the story. Leo, is that your thought behind the two topics, or am I just thinking too much?

Take care everyone.

P.S. I’ll be my own critic – Both these developments on the given word concept are very cliche’. 🙂
