The importance of losing

“मिल जाये तो मिट्टी है, खो जाये तो सोना है.”
It is very important in life to gain things, to accumulate. For some of us, it’s the most important thing in life.
Accumulating money, friends, praises; or hobbies such as accumulating certain things…. are all forms of the same thing – the importance we give to acquiring things.
We all see losing as something negative, something that we pray should not be a part of our lives. I, however feel, losing is as important, if not more, than acquiring.

We only know the importance of something once we have lost it (or something related). I do not by any means mean a permanent loss, losing can be in many ways.
Moving out from home to the hostel was in one sense a loss, and I am eternally thankful to this because now i respect and understand the importance of my family much more than I ever could have while living there.
Losing my maternal grandmother made me realize the importance of grandparents and what they mean to me, whom I had been taking for granted.
A lost race tells me that I need to work harder the next time.
A lost friend tells me where I went wrong as a friend.
A lost relationship signifies my growing up from a mistake to move on to possible a better relation.
Never underestimate the importance of a loss in your life. It may bring with it a lot of tears, but these tears have a lot to teach. Are we ready to learn, or are we too busy crying…. the choice is ours to make.

  1. Every coin has two sides…and there will always be two sides..and both are important…loss, gain, pain, pleasure,

Appreciating both sides and improving upon that is important.. 🙂

  2. “Loss” as a concept is perceptive, It depends on which frame of perception we choose to witness the event. Your post reminds me of something i read sometime back:

“And yet, I suppose you mourn the loss or the death of what you thought your life was, even if you find your life is better after. You mourn the future that you thought you’d planned.”

so there is no point to mourn for loss, because loosing is a never ending process life, it makes our lives worth living if we make best of what we loose and move on.

That said! enjoyed the post as ever!

  3. Losing something for a moment or a period of time is sometimes needed to understand the importance and value of the relation and how going ahead without such people makes us feel bad and uncomfortable..!

  4. So true…… infact, this post has a little resemblance with your last post “The Dark Beauty”…….presence of things make sense only if you know the pain of absence of those things……

  5. yeppp , I can vouch for that .. pity why Loss has to occur. and yes you are right we only know once we have lost .. but then i do feel that once we know we shud make an effort ot undo it all ..

sad are the people who know about the LOSS and then do nothing about it TRY and TRY HARDER 🙂

this is why i love ur blog you write some emotional posts 🙂

Your thoughts are as precious as mine... do share some
