A limited few of you must have heard of this stage comedy by Umar Sharif, Zeba shehnaz, Shakeel Siddiqui and others – Bakra Qishton Pay. It is a league apart in it’s comedy but a certain sense of sense of humour and a lack of feeling of “sensitivity” towards certain issues are a must to watch it.
It is something I feel will make the ones who understand it LITERALLY fall off the chair laughing. The subtle sarcasm, the light heart comedy, and most of all, the unmatched expressions of Umar Sharif, make it one of a kind. It is in 3 separate parts, however, the 2nd part, I feel, is by far the best.
It’s long, a few hours at length, but if you get time, watch it on you tube, it’s there in sub-parts, TOTALLY worth it.
A few spoilers:
1. Umar Sharif, in the play, has just had his second marriage, and is forever having a tiff with his wife.
2. The help, “Tili”, is forever providing a laugh by his ‘stupidities’ and Umar Sharif’s responses to them.
3. “Professor”, as Umar is called in the play, is trying to get his nieces married and the policy they follow is ‘meet the groom’s family just like they are’. So, he meets a jangli family, portraying himself to be a jangli himself etc.
I had initially thought of including a video of this, but a video from between the play, will not make much sense. So, my advice, watch it once at least. Most of you will be seeing it a second time, for sure.
For those who have seen it, share what you think of it here as comments.
